Search Engine Marketing

Where do we start?

We begin by defining a set of relevant and realistic keywords or phrases to target. Usually we would rely on our customer's knowledge of their market to suggest an initial list and then using keyword analysis software, evaluate these based on their competitiveness (how many other websites are targeting this phrase) and their popularity (how many people are actually searching for the phrase).

We would then reflect these throughout your website, where each page is optimised around a specific phrase or small number of phrases.

What more can be done to further improve my natural ranking?

Whilst the above design considerations are vital to this process, these alone may not result in your desired ranking. One of the underlying principles of how search engines decide where your site should be ranked is link popularity. This is essentially how many websites are linking to yours - where the more popular and relevant the linking site is, the more the link will be weighted.

We are able to help build links to your site and identify which websites are linking to your competitors and experience has shown many of these will include business directories and industry sites usually willing to link to yourself.

I have seen sponsored links on search engines, how do these work?

Sponsored links typically work on a cost-per-click basis, that is you nominate an amount of money you are willing to pay each time someone clicks on your link. As mentioned this does allow you to guarantee your position within a given search phrase and a budget can be set to control spending.

We can manage any number of sponsored links for you, where each is optimised to a specific product or service you sell. Initially your given budget may be spread over all your links but over time we will identify which are the most effective links and direct your budget to these.

What is search engine marketing?

Search engine marketing is the process by which a website is optimised and promoted to ensure it is as well ranked amongst search engines as possible.

When making a search on almost all of the major search engines you will be shown two separate sets of results, the sponsored links (typically shown down the right of the page) and the natural or organic results. The sponsored links work by paying to have your website listed under a given phrase and is the only way to guarantee your position, whereas the order of the natural results is determined by the search engine itself. Whilst it is possible to influence this, no guarantees can be made and you should be cautious of anyone trying to offer you such promises.
