Swansea Logo & Brand Design
Where Do We Start?
First off, a brief should be supplied by the client. Sometimes we will work with a client to develop this, other times the client will know exactly what they want.
A good brief should introduce the company, its products or services, audience and aspirations. If any stylistic choices have been made such as colour, font, shape or any other specific features, then these should be detailed here. It might also be worth mentioning where the logo will be needed, for example; business cards, outdoor signage, product labels etc.
Our Working Process
Once a brief is decided upon, we will then carry out some research. On a typical project we would collect photos and illustrations, explore a dictionary and thesaurus to cross reference word meanings and even take a peek at some competitors.
Next we would begin sketching out ideas on paper to quickly explore lots of different avenues. The best would then be scanned in and tidied up a little before being emailed to the client. A client would then typically indicate their favourite design together with plenty of constructive criticism. This period of refinement can often take a lot of back and forth, before both the client and us are 100% happy with the logo.
Of course all this hard work is worth it, because a logo will underpin the way your company is perceived, it needs to catch the eye of the customer and introduce your product or service quickly and effectively.
Branding
Further to logo design, its good practice to develop a visual brand for your company. At its most basic this might mean just using the same font on stationery, website and brochures. This simple attention to detail can help to create a professional image for your company.
It might also be necessary to create a style guide. This will ensure all of your graphical communications (stationery, flyers, presentations etc.) will be re-produced at the same level of quality. The guide will list recommended fonts, specific colours for screen and print, layout styles and instructions, allowing any member of staff to create professional looking, cohesive documents and artwork ready for publishing.
It's good to remember that you don't need a logo just for the sake of it. Everything you design should have a purpose or a goal. Think about what you want to achieve with each piece of design.
